Pharrell Williams To Release Debut Men’s Fragrance With Louis Vuitton

the sweet smell of success… in a bottle

Already a successful musician, producer, designer, and founder of his own skincare line, it seems as if Pharrell Williams now has his eyes set on making waves in the fragrance game. At the helm of Louis Vuitton Menswear since the untimely passing of his predecessor Virgil Abloh in 2021, it has been revealed that the French Maison’s current creative director will soon be releasing his first men’s perfume with the iconic checkered label.

Conceived in collaboration with French perfumer Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud, LVRS, as the concoction is called, draws inspiration from nature, laden with refreshing scents and rare, forgotten botanical elements. As Williams explains, the essence of the fragrance is to conjure a certain sense of escapism, inviting prospective users to imprint each application with the specific moment of life they find themselves in.

“Olfactory represents something people don’t realize—it’s the glue of every memory you’ve ever had,” Williams told Vogue. “So, the opportunity to be able to come to this Maison and work on a fragrance is an absolute pleasure,” he continued.

With Resin Galbanum forming the backbone of the fragrance’s DNA, the bouquet is complemented with hints of gum resin, cedar, bergamot, and sandalwood. Stemming from a conversation following the multi-award-winning-singer’s debut Louis Vuitton show last June, the perfume wants to exude a particular feeling of sophistication all while capturing the essence of understated elegance.

“When we discussed a few hours after the show how the perfume should be, we spoke very precisely about the use of the variety of light in nature coming from photosynthesis and this is where everything started,” Cavallier-Belletrud said. On why they chose to use Galbanum, he also revealed that it is an ingredient that “hasn’t been used in years.” That said, the reason why it was chosen is because, according to him, it is “something that was so interesting (…) to work with.”

This is not the first time that Pharrell has ventured the world of perfumery. A decade ago, the 51-year-old multi-hyphenate joined forces with Japanese label Comme Des Garçons to launch an exclusive fragrance too, which was named Girl after his latest album at the the time, and which catered to both men and women.

Slated to hit shelves on June 19, LVRS is expected to retail at 280€ ($310) for 100ml with its bespoke case tempting customers at an additional €630 ($685).

In other news, Williams has also teamed up with Tiffany & Co. on a new line of necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and rings. Available in 18k yellow gold or titanium, with options in all-metal and diamond, each piece is said to be inspired by Poseidon’s trident, reflecting “an expression of one’s energy, power, and force,” per a shared statement. Dubbed Tiffany Titan by Pharrell Williams, the jewelry range is now available to shop both in-store and online.
